In India, since ancient times however women were not given freedom, and were humiliated at home and were considered as sign of unholiness, due to which they were and are treated as slaves, but according to the religion of Hinduism, women are Goddesses such as Laxmi, who is being worshiped. On the contrary if women are being worshiped, then why are they ill treated in the society and community... ?
Each and every day, In the social media, we read, hear, and watch the violence against women. In India, According to the constitution Women have equal rights as Men but are the women being benefited from those rights ? Government provides reservations in schools, collages, institutions and offices, through which women can be benefited, then why are women deprived of such reserved seats ?
Violence against women.
Nearly, 3/4th of the women living in the society has to face violence in the society, some violence are minor but some are as major as rape and murder. Only few of the stories and cases of such Incidents come in front of us. but what happens to those which are hidden ?
We think such cruelty against women only happens in small villages and towns, but it is an mis-concept of the people. let me explain you with a short story.
Suzette Jordan, A girl living in the bright cities of Kolkata, who was gang raped on February 2012 at park street, Kolkata. When she knocked the door of kolkata high court for justice, her case was ignored and was dismissed. The chief minister of kolkata who is also a women, herself stated that this incidence was an sanjana ghatna or a ''cooked-up story''. Suzette was also, neglected from the society, and was forcefully made to shift her house to another city. Where did the humanity of the people living in her society go ? Are we all not responsible for the encouragement of the rapists ?
In India, people want bullet trains, super ways, luxurious facilities, for which they want to bring change but why don't they think about the changes to be brought in the society which are more important than the bullet trains and other improvements. As an Indian citizen, we all pledge that all citizens of India are our brothers and sisters but at the time of consequences we all step back. Where does our citizenship and brotherly responsibilities go that time ? As a citizen we all need to protect women of our society and country.
We always blame women , when they are persecuted, such as women do not wear decent clothes, women should not go out of the house at nights. but what if a small child is being violated ? lets look forward for our next story.
In a town called Badlapur in Mumbai, A small girl who was only 4 years old, She had recently joined school, in order to study, gain knowledge and fulfill her dreams, but one incident changed her whole life. An incident which was terrible than a night mare, One day when she was returning home from school in her school bus, the bus conductor tempting her by giving a chocolate raped her. Now can we blame the child ? Indeed No. After this heart breaking incident no major action was taken against the rapist. As a result, can we call India as a prospering nation ?
Right for the birth of girl child.
Women not only have to fight against violence when they are grown big, but have to fight against their parents, right from the beginning, that is birth. Many times, If a girl child is born, she is killed by her own parents. Every person wants a Mother, Sister, wife but nobody wants a girl child. Some practices such as child marriage, In which small girls are forcefully married, with men way older than their age are still in practices in India. When asked to women, why dont you fight against such cruelty, their answer is - Women speak out, but they are not heard.
How can we bring change ?
A recent issue, 60 girls and women, were kidnapped in Nigeria, but very few countries stepped forward for their help. If a number of nations, would had come together for their rescue, not only the girls would have been saved but also other girls in future against such activity. The negligence of nations to this matter, clearly specified that they were afraid of those hand full of kidnappers. We see that nations Investing billions of Dollors for Ammunition, development projects and market shares but no body invest for the development and upliftment of women. The major cause of such violence against women is lack of education in the society. If we peep into these above cases, we would find the violator are conductors, tribals who are not educated, hence they have not gained knowledge as well as they have not gained moral values, because through education comes moral values. When ever such incidents occur, we protest and talk about it and forget it after some days. But what about the victim ? Instead of protesting, we can stop such incidents. here's one example, As charity begins at home, in the same way, we can bring change from ourselves, A maid who works in our homes cannot afford her childs education, but indeed we can help her. We can teach her child through week ends, this will not only help that child to prosper ahead but also help him be moral toward others in the society, This movement is as simple as ''Action speaks louder than voice''.
Hence, If we look forward to such changes, we can not only build a safe environment for our own sister but also for the thousands of sisters around the country and the world.
